easyCapture – OR Documentation System

HCI easyCapture

HCI easyCapture is a professional medical documentation system for recording still images and videos in the operating or examination room.

An integrated videoconferencing and streaming module allows immediate second opinion conferencing or high-resolution live transmission into the seminar room and lecture hall.

easyCapture is designed for mobile endoscopy video carts as well as surgical camera systems from almost all manufacturers and handles the acquisition of still images and videos. As usual, the surgeon controls the system via the endoscopic camera head or foot switch.

Fault-Tolerant Concept – No Waiting Time for Data Transmission at the End of the Procedure

In minimally invasive surgeries, mobile video carts in the operating room are usually only switched on for as long as they are needed for the procedure. Conventional video documentation systems, however, require a certain amount of time to send video recordings in full HD or 4K resolution via the network to the PACS or Vendor Neutral Archive. If the mobile video cart is switched off during data transmission, for example because the OR needs to be cleaned, the recordings do not reach at all or only incompletely the archive.

This is exactly where easyCapture comes in. The system already sends the video recordings to the ASMIS server in the background while the intervention is still ongoing. There is no waiting time at the end of the procedure and the OR schedule is not slowed down. easyCapture ensures the availability and integrity of the data even in the event of usage faults, e.g. in stressful situations.

Live Videoconferencing and Streaming

easyCapture features an integrated video conferencing and streaming module. This makes obtaining a second opinion or transmitting high-resolution live video to seminar and lecture halls simple and straightforward. A consulting physician who wishes to connect live to the operating room, for example from their office, can do so using existing devices such as a PC, tablet, or smartphone — no special hardware or software is required. All user interaction and video display take place via a web browser; no additional software needs to be installed on the device. HCI easyCapture offers two operating modes: As a video stream for viewing the current camera signals and as an interactive video conference with bidirectional audio and video transmission and interactive “Point & Mark” functionality.

To ensure maximum data protection for live transmissions, no external service is used. All data remain within the local network and are not transmitted to external locations or servers at any time. Access to live transmissions is restricted to authorized users; unsecured access is not possible. Unintended monitoring of operating room staff is also prevented — the live transmission must be actively started on the easyCapture system in the OR, and the current transmission status is clearly indicated on the monitor in the operating room.

Integrated into Hospital-Wide Image Management

Fact: In most hospitals, image and video management is not part of the digital workflow. Videos and images are stored on separate servers or on CD/DVD. easyyCapture extends the digital workflow within the hospital. Patient data can be imported at the touch of a finger from the existing HIS or OR management system. The system already sends the video recordings to the ASMIS server in the background while the intervention is still ongoing. The advantages are obvious: a seamless workflow and cost reduction by reducing the need for printing, archiving and transporting conventional patient records. Medical staff can focus fully on patient care, and not on manually moving.

Flexible and Future-Ready Video and Interface Support

easyCapture supports the latest video standards. Medical camera sources can be connected to the system either via analogue plugs or as digital signals (SDI, 3G-SDI, 12G-SDI, HDMI). The system supports video signals in SD, HD and 4K quality, optionally also on two channels, i.e. from 2 sources simultaneously. Full 3D processing is also supported.

Easy to Use

The system is very easy to operate via the touchscreen. A single tap is sufficient – neither keyboard nor mouse are required. The system is delivered with a user interface that can be adapted to the specific needs of the hospital. Developed in close collaboration with physicians and nursing staff, the system optimally supports the workflow in the operating room and offers simple operation even for inexperienced users.

The surgeon uses the trigger button on the endoscopic camera head, as usual, to capture still images and/or videos. An optional wireless footswitch is also available.

Flexible Installation within Existing Equipment Setups

easyCapture is certified according to EN 60601-1 and EN 60601-1-2 and offers various options for installation and mounting on existing camera systems. Both the base unit and the touchscreen control panel can be mounted on almost all mobile video carts, CSU-consoles, or control units for surgical robots, thereby upgrading even older systems with DICOM Worklist connectivity, image and video recording, and live video transmission capabilities.
